Resende Actividades Turísticas History

It all started in 1937 when the founding partner, Mr. Joaquim Pereira Resende, recently arrived from the military service, took the opportunity to take the heavy and tractor driver’s license and decided to invest his savings in Purchase a second-hand cargo van, a Chevrolet for 18 contos. It began with the sale of sardines, in Espinho, Ovar, Aveiro and Ílhavo and sometimes Gafanha, crossing the coast, touching a bugle and appealing to buy the fish. He managed to increase the business when World War II brought new clients and new perspectives of expansion and benefits from a contract he made with a German group to transport a sardine van daily to the cannery that was based in Peniche. From the hard work resulted in financial independence and the possibility of bolder investments, opening in 1950 the first Travel Agency.

In 1958, with the help of his three sons, Álvaro, Serafim and Joaquim, he bought a small transport company in Cachão, Vila Flor – Trás-os-Montes, with the transportation industry as the object of exploration, starting with a mixed career (passengers and goods) between Vilar do Pinheiro and Cabanelas.

In the 70’s the company’s growth is already unquestionable, with several branches scattered throughout the country (Lisbon and Sines). With the revolution of April 25, the nationalizations of the great companies of transports appeared. By irony of fate, these nationalizations would contribute to a great growth of the business group with the subsequent reprivatization.

The company development is mainly linked to the use of opportunities almost in a premonitory way. This was the case of passenger transport for airplanes, runway service and even between the Airports of Pedras Rubras and Lisbon, in cases of landing / take-offs.

The 80’s brought express services, mainly between Porto and Lisbon, but also Arcos de Valdevez, Braga and Algarve. It was a decade of great frenzy and the success of the company was only possible with the help of the whole family.

At the beginning of the 90’s, Renex was constituted – Rede Nacional de Transportes, Lda, where Resende Actividades Turísticas, a company that together with the two other companies in the field that operated express services allowed the standardization of transport between North and South of Portugal.

The adaptation of the company structure to its growth led to the transformation of the company Transportes Central do Cachão, Lda into ResendeActividades Turísticas, a limited liability company in 1989.

RESENDE ACTIVIDADES TURÍSTICAS, S.A. has extensive experience in passenger transportation, where it ensures urban transportation throughout the municipality of Matosinhos and passing through other municipalities of the Metropolitan area of Oporto.

In the rentals area we have a diverse set of clients in the delegations of Matosinhos, Sines and Lisbon.

Currently has a fleet of 179 vehicles, has at its service 204 employees, including 160 professional drivers. It has a extensive team of employees, distributed by various departments; Administration, Legal, Commercial, Administrative-Financial, Quality, Hygiene and Security, Human Resources, Traffic, Maintenance, Claims and Training.

In order to increase the level of satisfaction of ours customers and improve the performance of activity, Resende Actividades Turísticas, S.A. is currently in the process of certification by the norm NP EN ISO 9001.
